What it means

   Disaster; that's it, it's over. The printable stand-in for пиздец, built to the same shape so that it can slot into the same sentences without changing the rhythm.

2. 2.

   Also an intensifier in exactly the same way: капец как холодно means 'unbelievably cold'. Younger speakers use it in preference to пиздец in any mixed company.

Where it comes from

Built on капут (from German kaputt) with the -ец ending copied from пиздец. A euphemism engineered to sound like the word it replaces, which is the usual design principle in this family.
