   Too much hassle; can't be bothered. Applied to tasks, procedures and, unkindly, to people who require managing.

  Drying my hair is such a faff.

• あの人ちょっとめんどくさい性格なんだよね。

  He's a bit high-maintenance, personality-wise.

  Note: Of a person this is a real criticism, though a soft-sounding one.

Where it comes from

A clipping of 面倒くさい, itself 面倒 ('trouble') plus the suffix -くさい ('smelling of'). Japanese builds several adjectives this way; the literal reading is 'reeking of bother'.
