   To drink — seriously, at length and with intent. Not the word for a glass of wine with dinner; бухать describes an evening whose purpose is the drinking.

   Blunt but not obscene. Said about oneself it is faintly self-deprecating; said about someone else repeatedly it is an accusation.

Where it comes from

From бухать 'to thud, to bang', by way of the sound of a bottle being set down or a body hitting the floor. The noun бухло 'booze' and the agent бухарик come from the same root.
