진짜 (jinjja)

What it means
Really; genuinely. The commonest intensifier in spoken Korean, dropped in front of almost anything.
On its own, with rising intonation, 'seriously?'. Flat and drawn out, it is an expression of exasperation: 진짜… means 'I don't believe this'.

Seriously? When did that happen?
Where it comes from
From 眞, 'true', plus a native suffix. Its more formal counterpart 정말 means the same thing and sounds noticeably more careful.
