What it means
A nightclub. In Mexico the word has lost its negative charge entirely and simply means a place you go dancing.
Literally: Den, dive, seedy place.

Where it comes from
From Latin antrum, 'cave'. In most of the Spanish-speaking world antro is still pejorative — a dive. Mexico is the notable exception, which regularly confuses visitors from Spain and South America.
