UL-jjangnounInformal

A Korean slang term. Browse all Korean slang.

What it means

  1. Someone exceptionally good-looking — literally the best face in a given group. 몸짱 is the same for physique.

Early-2000s vintage and now faintly dated; it evokes the era of internet photo rankings it came from.

Examples with translations

  • 고등학교 때 얼짱으로 유명했대.

Apparently she was known as the best-looking girl in school.

  • 몸짱 되려고 헬스장 등록했어.

I've joined a gym to get in shape.

Where it comes from

얼굴 ('face') plus 짱 ('best'). It spread through early-2000s photo-ranking sites, several of which launched careers — a few of Korea's best-known actors were 얼짱 first.

First attested: early 2000s
